The Third Silence completes the third day of Kvothe’s telling—how the man behind the bar became Kote, how his name came apart, and how the chest came open again. It does not end the war beyond the inn’s doors. That last road runs south, out of the frame.
The Step Off the Path follows that road—and the inn the story left behind. It is the book that closes what the third one deliberately left open.
Like The Third Silence, it will be free. In the meantime, the first book is complete and waiting, and it is where this one begins.
